P-TTL uses a pre-flash flash before the shutter fires, so the camera's flash meter can take a reading and reputably adjust flash output more accurately. Only a fraction of a second is involved. If red-eye reduction is also selected, perhaps yet another fraction. This is the science behind P-TTL vs.TTL flash. Some say it is definitely better, while others say the older TTL is faster-operating and just as accurate. Just how much shutter lag P-TTL entails between one camera model and another has not been tested to my knowledge.

The Metz are good but slow to recycle and not good for events. Better go off with Kung Pao (Young No's). If you want/need
P-TTL get the latest version. But if you really want to learn flash photography aka strobist, get a manual flash.
