KP vs 200D?

Which do you think is better for general shooting and as a "life" camera?

The 200D offers some nice pancake lenses too plus good video and AF, while the KP...is a Pentax (and we all know it's cornucopia).

Compare camera dimensions side by side

It's not an apples with apples comparison. In my view, the K-p is the far superior camera, but the 200D is, of course, much cheaper.

I clicked on the link and got a comparison with the KP of a lowly Canon entry-level model, which is no comparison.

A Pentax 200d will be much cheaper.....the Canon SL2(200d) may not be....only just announced and I haven't seen any price indications yet.

Yes, the Canon has good AF and reasonable video....

Fine if you're a Canon shooter having numerous lenses, an old body, want an amateur-oriented design and do a lot of video clips. But it is not a camera in the same class as the KP, which is a uniquely compact metal-body pro-style design, especially for still photography. No comparison. The KP has no "scene" modes, magnesium alloy construction available in black or silver/black finish, a pro-level glass pentaprism viewfinder having 100% coverage and 95x magnification with diopter adjustment, weather sealing (WR), advanced control layout, pixel-shift technology, 14bit RAW, 2-dial operation with the fast, efficient Pentax Hyper System, GPS availability for astro-photography, optional battery grip available, etc. etc.

If fishing in that Canon entry-level price range, B&H also offers the Pentax K-S2, which is both amateur-oriented having the "scene" modes, yet also has some of the advanced features of the KP, such as 2-dial thumb and finger operation with the unique Pentax Hyper System, quality carbonate plastic construction over a metal frame and still having WR, GPS availability, and the same pro-level VF with 100% coverage. You cannot find this kind of construction and control features in another new camera in this price range. For the same $549 as that Canon body-only, B&H offers the Pentax K-S2 with the uniquely compact 18-50mm kit lens, which also has WR construction, for a complete WR camera/lens package! With other brands, to get advanced control features, a pro level VF, and WR construction, you'll be looking more in the price range of around $1,000+ for the camera body and $1,000+ for the lens.

Looks like the main reason to get the Canon would be the weight 453g vs 703g for the KP.
Also it does 60p video vs only 60i for Pentax.
Otherwise the KP is better in every way.

Looks like they are not in the same price range, also.
