KP and 16-85

Hi,

Has anybody been using the KP with the Pentax 16-85? Wondering how well that balances. My concern is that it is not a good match and between body size and lens size. What's your experience?

Thanks

Skinner12 in the marketplace is selling a k70 and 16-85. Perhaps he or she could give some insight into that combo and you could extrapolate from there.

I've used the KP and the DA 16-85. Balance is fine either with the largest grip or with the largest grip + battery grip.

Incidentally, the KP with the largest grip doesn't feel significantly different than, say, the K-5 or other Pentax DSLRs. I find it eminently comfortable.

I have the Pentax 16-85. I use it with my K-3II. It is an excellent lens. The size is not inhibiting.

I agree. Great lens. I use it on my K3. Was wondering how it felt on the much smaller KP.

That might be a bit subjective opinion but for me balance is okay for large grip and 16-85 lens combination.

The image quality of that combo is really superb.

I have the kp. This thread answers some of my qurstions
Sounds like as long as a large grip is used it is quite balanced. Does anyone have any photogrpahs of the combo itself please? Kp with 16-85.... All the promo stuff of KP has it with 20-40.

Its a perfect match! My 16-85 is exceptionally sharp and handles well. It was the first lens I bought after I received my KP and have no regrets. Its on my camera 90% of the time.

@tljensen

Thanks for your response, it helps in deciding between 18-135 vs 16-85-- my focus is on IQ rather and telezoom or price. Which grip do you use with the KP and the 16-85? Do you often find you need to go wider than 16mm?

My other lenses are a 10-20 Sigma 3.5, a Tamron 90mm 2.8 Macro and a Pentax 55-300 PLM. So I have the entire range covered, but I keep the 16-85 on when not using the others for a specific purpose. The Tamron is a great macro lens, and is also very sharp as a telephoto. The Sigma 10-20 is good for indoor architecture, landscapes where the foreground is a significant element, and is somewhat useful for telephotography. I am starting t warm up more to the 55-300 as a wildlife lens, I have some pretty good shots, some better than my Nikon 200-500 simply because is easier to handle. As for grips, I put the big grip on, got used to it and never looked back. Because of some limited hand movement from an injury the larger grip works better for me, and the lightweight of the entire KP setup, much easier to handle than the Nikon counterpart.

I am using my KP mostly with limiteds. I also use the KP with 12-24/4 and 16-50/2,8 and the handling is very good as well. Note that 16-50/2,8 is even bigger and heavier than 16-85. In all cases, I use only the medium grip. The small grip is uncomfortable for me and the big one is too big to be used with limiteds (and KP looks strange with it ).

Great thanks for your response. Sounds like kp. And 16-85 might be a good travel kit. Over time hope to aquire limiteds...

All I can say is that my KP and Pentax 300 mm is not a good combination. Don't try it at home or in the field ha-ha.
