KP RAW quality in comparison (measurbation in Colorfoto 2017_12, Germany)

Hi,

owning the KP I have to say the RAW quality and also noise characteristics of the sensor are quite convincing.

German magazine Colorfoto compared it to 11 other cameras. They performed several tests with different settings in LR with RAW-images.

In the end they provide a final so called RAW-score (summary):

Canon 6D Mark II -> 81,5
Canon EOS 77D -> 69
Nikon D7500 -> 81
Nikon D850 -> 106,5
Panasonic Lumix GH5 -> 77
Fujifilm X-T20 -> 73
Leica TL2 -> 63,5
Pentax KP -> 82
Sony Alpha 9 -> 90,5

It seems to be at the top of it's APS-C peers and even besting the 6D MII.

Most of this scores relate quite well to DXO-Mark scores. Curious if they will ever test it.

However, regardless of tests and scores it will still take the excellent images it does, but I just wanted to point out some quantitative data, that seems to support the overall high regarded qualitative impressions.

The K-5 also was best in class for a year or so after introduction. It doesn't surprise me at all that it's about the same as a ^DII. I've long pointed out that Pentax APS-c was as good or better than the FF 6D. You won't get agreement from Canon owners however, they believe what they believe. No facts are relevant.

A good or bad sensor doesn’t mean beans if it’s never exposed. The GAS trap is the constant hunt for the next piece of gear. If half the effort was applied to exploring, refining technique, and making photos the true capabilities of ones camera can be realized #getoutside #makephotos.

Does it mean to get better landscape and sport camera I need to upgrade to either Sony Alpha 9 or Nikon D850? NO WAY!

Thanks for sharing, those are interesting results.

DXOMark has not tested the KP, but they have tested the Sony a6300 and a6500 which use the same sensor. Overall Scores for the latest Sony APS-C sensor reach 85, imperceptibly behind the Nikon/Toshiba sensor at 86-87.

Any difference between the a6500 and KP score would be trivial, i.e. plus or minus one point, where 5 points equals 1/3 stop.

exactly...

I wasn't sure if the word "measurbation" was a lingual artefact of non native english speaker or a reference to the self gratification of those who measure
