Fabulous story HelenJo. It looks like you have had a delightful photography journey and I look forward to seeing more from you. If I am not being too bold and scaring you away I'd love to see some of your images both older and newer.

Im getting all set up with a scanner , and thats a huge undertaking. My recent images are much easier to share and will be coming shortly.

This Old Lady may only shoot in JPG , but the KP is HelenJo Approved !
Good to know! It really is a fantastic camera.

I did actually try the K-1 briefly. Although it is impressive I just didnt like it. For me it was too big , and I actually prefer the shallower depth of field my lenses render on Aps-c.
There is always a trade-off of various formats , pluses and negatives. What works for one , doesnt necessitate the needs by another.
And ain't that the truth. Every format is a compromise - better at some things, less good at others. You just have to find the one that fits you the best (or the least worst, depending on your mindset).

Also joining in Paul's hope in seeing some images

Aye quite right... each to their own, for me the K1 is both smaller and lighter than my Canons and Nikons, hence a joy to use on occasion.

Wonderful story! Thanks for sharing.

And here's another vote to see your Pentax photos. We need illustrations!

Best,

My first Pentax was purchased for me by my Husband the day he proposed marriage about ten years later in 1953. He was a very smart man , and knew a simple engagement ring just wouldn't do it for this Lady, Ha ha !
It was a Pentax Asahiflex. Yes , it did the trick ! I married him the following week and stayed that way for over 62 years until his death a few years ago.
Your husband was obviously a clever bloke! Love the story!

Kind regards,
Mark

Many here consider post processing to be synonymous with good photography. However in my world its two distinct realms. A good Photograph and good Photography are not the same.
Amen!
I'm 71, shoot JPEGS only, and have stayed with Pentax for over 30 years.
Welcome to the forum HelenJo, you are already an asset!
edit, I also have the KP and think it's wonderful too!

I very much enjoyed your personal history of photography.

I'm a relative newcomer to Pentax, compared to you.

I purchased my first Pentax SLR, back in February, 1968...50 years ago. Back then, I worked for a publishing company and one day the publisher told me I needed to make myself more useful. He informed me, that In addition to my editorial duties , I would also be working as a photographer. I didn't know anything about cameras or photography and asked him what kind of camera should I get. He replied...35mm SLR...Nikon or Pentax. I looked at both makes, the Pentax (S1a) was $ 20 cheaper. I bought the S1a and a handheld Sekonic light meter ($9.95) and started my 50 year adventure in photography, with a variety of different makes, but mostly with Pentax.

Welcome to the fold, HelenJo.

Athens is one of my favorite places in the entire world ! Plaka and Mount Lycabettus are wonderful places to visit in your lovely city. I wanted to retire there someday , but it simply wasnt meant to be.
I can still smell the Orange blossoms.
