I bought the KP last summer to take to Alaska as a second camera. I specifically got it to keep the DA*300 and 1.4 TC on it for wildlife, while I expected to take almost all other photos with the K1. Only it didn't really work out that way - I started to use the KP more as a walk-about camera with the DFA 28-105, but kept wishing I had a zoom for it that was wider.

Now the KP usually has either the DA16-85 (my wider angle solution), the DA*300/1.4 combination or the DFA 100 Macro on it. I have also used the limiteds on it but I have recently been doing mostly travel/landscape and not wanting to take a camera bag with me. I've also found that I am less comfortable shooting a lot with the K1, I really appreciate the smaller size and weight of the KP.

I mostly do travel / landscape - main lenses are 18-270, 55-300, Sigma 15-70 and Sigma 10-20.

It seems surprising that up to here there are few mentions of the DA 35 Ltd - a compact, astonishingly good, versatile, standard lens for APS-C.

I don't have a K-P but how about a K-3?
Walking kit... basic hiking kit DA 55-300 PLM, DA 18-135, DFA 100 Macro WR, fits in a nice small bag.

May or may not come on the hike or trip depending on the need for low light performance or opportunities for shallow DoF images. . DA*55 1.4, DA* 200 2.8.
May or may not come depending on the need for UWA - DA 10-17 fisheye, Sigma 8-16.

Close to car or home lenses.
DA* 60-250, Tamron 300 2.8, Sigma 8-16

Specialty lenses.
Sigma 70 macro, my favourite portrait lens.
For when i feel like messing around with primes.
DA 50 macro, DA 35 2.4 DA 21ltd.
Zooms that are super light weight and just fun to have FA-J 18-35, FA 35-80. Used when i feel like using something different.

I have 3 TCs, HD DA 1.4 TC, F 1.7x AF adapter and Tamron 2x AF the first to good on almost any telephoto. The tamron works well on the Tamron 300 2.8 but has no electrical contacts for the 200 or 60-250.

I am another, who when liking to go small but versatile, it is the KP and DA 20-40mm f/2.8-4 LTD, along with the DA 15mm LTD. If I feel I might want more tele, I include the DA 70mm LTD, or the excellent DA* 50-135mm f/2.8.

If I just want to keep to absolute minimum size, the DA 21mm LTD is terrific, and can be supplemented easily with the minuscule DA 15 and 40mm LTDs

For maximum versatility without lens changing, yet still compact, it is the DA 18-135mm.

For a low-light/ high quality fast lens zoom kit, it is the Sigma 17-50mm f/2.8, DA* 50-135mm f/2.8, which still are compact for a fast zoom lens combo. Quite easy to carry. If needing longer range yet, I add the DA* 200mm f/2.8, then for even more perhaps the FA* 300mm f/4.5 as well.

This is another of those cameras where the 18-50 RE seems like a good fit; camera and lens are both on the small side (especially the lens when retracted) and the high-ISO performance would allow for more shots to be taken stopped down where the lens seems to perform very well without undo noise in the taken image.

DA* 16-50mm when it might rain.
Otherwise, I may take up to 3 limited lenses from SMC 15mm, 35mm, 40mm, and 70mm limited.
Occasionally, I will take D-FA Macro 100mm WR when I want to shoot macro.

My KP lives in a Domke F-3x. Depending on the object and circumstances these lenses are in the bag:
  1. Grab and Go + situational additions
    HD DA21 | HD DA40 | HD DA70 I + HD DA15 or HD DA35 or substitute HD DA 20~40 or DFA28-105, as needed
  2. Alternate
    SMC DA*16-50 | SMC DA*50-135 | FA*200/2.8 or FA*300/4.5 + HD 1.4x TC + monopod. LowePro 200 AW backpack
That covers about 99% of my KP outings, but recently 50% has been the DA* Zooms I just bought in the used market.

I've just been reading a similar thread in the K-1 section here, and thought it would be interesting to hear from other people who shoot with the little Pentax wonder.

For me, I'm increasingly addicted to the Limiteds. So the small bag I carry for day to day shooting (a Crumpler Four Million Dollar Home) generally holds the 15, 21 and 70 DA Limiteds and the 43 FA Limited, in addition to my KP. Sometimes I swap in the DA 50/1.8.

When hiking in bad weather (which is most of the time in Oregon) I carry a small Lowepro backpack with two KP bodies and a range of DA* lenses: 16-50, 50-135 and 300, along with the DA 12-24. All but the last are weatherproof.

I have a few legacy manual focus lenses, including a couple 135s and 50s and an M28/2.8, but seldom use them.
My walk-around combo is 16-45 and 70mm Limited, the latter supplying the short tele left out on 16-45. My travel lens is the 18-135, but I think my new 55-300 plm might make the trip too...very compact!

The PLM is just flat awesome, it lives on my KP and loves the 1.4 tc also. I find it focuses a bit faster than my da*300 racked out, which is a shame the DA is a great lens but the weight with all the stuff is kind of a draw back.

Recently added a FA j 28-50, I thought for 10 bucks off ebay in rough shape it would be a fool around lens. Honestly a bit shocked, had a few rather nice shots out of it in the short time it was on the KP. Considering devoting some more time playing around with it.

Always on the Camera - 55-300 plm

Just bought the kp 3 weeks ago.

Bought the 100mm Macro 3 weeks before that - for use on my 2nd hand K50

Bought the 16-85mm and the 55-300mm PLM with the the KP - the 55-300 just about lives on the camera. But sunny weather is back (after almost 2 full weeks of overcast and/or rainy days), so gotta get off my butt, get to some local nature reserve or botanical gardens, and give the camera and all 3 new lenses a workout.

Love having brand new modern AF lenses, after virtually making do with some old legacy Pentax M series film lenses on the K50.

Added Sigma 18-35 before my last road trip - great results; now added a Sigma 18-300 to act as a coverall walkabout lens during a family holiday later on this year, results in test shots so far have better than I expected.

For my KP, my main walkaround is the Sigma 30mm f1.4 Art lens. I also have a ltd 20-40 and 55-300 PLM WR. Plus some old glass but favorite being my Zenit Helios 44-4K.

Im really enjoying the Bokeh effect of the Sigma 1.4 though. It pretty much stays on the KP all the time now.
