Thanks again everyone. I've taken on board all of your expert advise and been shooting with the camera. It is definitely an upgrade to the K30 in terms of functions. I have to be honest ever with my primes I don't see much difference in IQ, perhaps this is because I am viewing the images on a 4k screen. AF- with the 50mm 1.8 is a bit hit and miss with young kids, especially in doors. I am not sure I had used the flipping screen much yet, I am sure situations will present themselves. The ergonomics are growing on me. Is there any way to change the back button focusing to another bottom, finding the placement a little awkward.
That is rather surprising regarding the AF with the DA 50mm f/1.8 since it is a more recent 50mm designed for APS-C. I've had no AF issue at all with an older FF 50mm f/1.7 from the film days. I tend to use center-point spot AF most of the time. For me, my preference is for the shutter button half press for AF. I like the AE-L button for that function.

If going with JPEGs right out of the camera, the KP does an excellent job, but be sure to implement "Fine Sharpening" in the Custom Image menus, at least with the most frequently used "Bright" category.

I also think you will be happy with results you get in low light situations.

No its just the one option for back button focusing. I find my thumb rests naturally on the AE-L button with my pinky sitting below the camera .

My thumb doesn't naturally go to that button either. Using my KP requires me to be more cognizant of where the button actually is, I quite often hit the wrong one if not actively thinking about it,

Of my Pentax cameras the KP is the only one where the placement of that button is not a natural. Yeah I know how to back-button focus, all I've done for years. I'm not a fan of the KP's ergonomics.

I've never become a fan of back-button focus. KP ergonomics work great for my manipulating the three e-dials.
