EV compensation works with M + Auto ISO on my A7 MkII and Hasselblad HV (Sony A99)...
Good to know that Sony A7 (and/or its variants) work with EV compensation. My brief experience playing with Nikon D750 does not (as what they say Manual is 'manual', nothing more).

Yes it was great for my trip to the dark rainforest in Costa Rica. To travel light, as I was hiking a lot, I carried the KP and 55-300PLM. I set the max ISO to 12800, and the KP in TAv mode did a great job at adjusting as necessary. Though often I have the third dial set to adjust ISO and can do pretty much the same thing shooting in M and using the third dial.

For me, the best usage of the third wheel is to change LCD Display Option.

In the first photo below, I have circled the three e-dials; the one circled in green is the "third e-dial".

Actual function of this e-dial is determined by the dial which has 'C1', 'C2', 'C3', .... on it.
The menu system determines the meaning of this dial.
The second photo shows that I have my KP configured so that when the dial is set to 'C1', the third e-dial controls ISO.

I like to shoot in "TAV" mode and with the front dial setting shutter speed and the rear aperture with the 3rd dial for +/- compensation. This gives me instant control over all settings

I pretty much stay in Tav mode unless I'm shooting a legacy lens in "M" mode.

I stay in TAv when without flash but use M when I have flash. I love it too as I have more control and focus better on composition. With the KP I set the max ISO to 12800 while with the K5iis up to 3200

I will have to try the TAv mode as I mostly use Av with the front dial set for iso. It sounds like there is a-lot of versatility I have been missing, and need to give this one a try. The high useable iso with the KP may make this mode a more useable one than I have given it credit for.
