Hi . I just bought a KP today and this KP is ver 1:00
I see pentax has created a new version. Is an upgrade needed? Is it really necessary?

There are no known reasons (bugs) not to in the firmware update, so IMO at worst it's neutral and at best you'll benefit. Besides squashing some early issues with KP firmware the most recent update includes added functionality with some of Pentax latest lenses so if you're contemplating a 50-300 PLM or the newish HD FA50 1.4 you absolutely should update.

Oh and by the way, the only one you need to apply is the latest one which includes everything from the previous updates as well.

I would advise to do it but make sure you follow the instructions on the Ricoh/Pentax website explicitly also do it with a fully charged battery. Insure the firmware is expanded properly and copied to the "root directory" of the card that has been formatted in camera.
