I wonder if there are actually any noticeable improvements to "general performance?"

Well, in the hands of a colonel or lower rank, probably not.

Probably none, unless the HD version has the same ID code ("4 24") as the non-HD. This was not the case for the HD DA limiteds.

The release specifies both HD and SMC lenses.

"Optimized focus operation for new lenses"

How would they do that?

So it does! I guess I should install the update then.

Improved algorithms? Better newer data learned from testing the HD versions and tweaked to the SMC versions. All pure guesswork on my part but based on the fact it works with existing hardware it may be close as those types of improvements don’t necessarily require hardware.

Hmm... I wonder if there will be the same kind of firmware update also for the K-1 II as well, since these are FF lenses.

I've updated my K-70 and my KP.
Unfortunately the KP still has that annoying delay for the a/f to become active when pressing the shutter button from the "Power Save" state, unless I press the button twice

I think I've seen somewhere that a particular feature was meant to be added to the KP in a firmware update. It was words from Ricoh soon after the KP release. Of course, firmware updates stopped very quickly, and promise forgotten... until today. And there is this version number gap. Do anyone remembers what it was? I cannot seem to be able to find it.

As in prior to current firmware? 1.11 > 1.30

As far as promises - who knows.
