A piece off my KP

Today was a nice, mostly sunny, day, so I took a drive.
When I got home, the KP was still on the seat next to me - but the eye-rest off the viewfinder was also on the seat.
My K-30 was my primary camera for about 3-1/2 years .... during that time the latch that holds the battery in broke {but the door is adequate for keeping the AA-battery holder in place}, and the aperture control failed {so now I use it only with aperture-ring equipped lenses and in 'Av' and 'M' modes}.
The KP has now been my primary camera for about 2-1/2 years .... during that time the flash mysteriously developed cracks {which I stabilized with Gorilla Glue}, and now this piece has mysteriously come off.
The issues with the K-30 were definitely more serious, but these little problems with the KP are getting to be irritating.

Looks like the viewfinder rubber eye-cup just slid off … maybe it was resting on fabric upholstery and a combination of vibrations and friction was sufficient to displace it?
Will it just slide back into place or has the eye-cup actually disassembled itself?

I can’t figure out how to re-attach it nor how to remove the like eye-cup from the K-30.

The eye cups just slide on and off, from the top. Slide up to remove, slide down to replace.

Yep, it just slides in place. There are slots in the eye cup and corresponding guides on the viewfinder. It locates above and slides down. It is a snug fit though. Aaaaah, the blue K30. I miss my blue K30. It was such a good camera.

Assuming that your eyecup has slid off without damage, this video might be helpful. It describes a Hoodman-brand eyecup on another brand of camera, but I think that the principle is similar to the KP eyecup.

The segment at 0:21 shows the arrangement of the slot and guide.

As others have said it should slip straight up to remove. And straight down to replace. It doesn't look like the rubber cushion has torn off. Possibly the screws holding the frame stripped out which would mean there is still a piece on the camera. It should slide off.

The knockoffs by JJC (check eBay) seem to get good reviews on PF should you need a replacement.

Thank you!! That worked.
My 73-year-old-eyes couldn't see the groves, so I slid it on faith.
We'll see if it happens again.
I hope it won't happen again - at least for another 2-1/2 years.

It shouldn't happen again, as long as nothing is up against it to make it slide! It was just one of those incidental things.

Does anyone else with a KP find it difficult to read the numbers at the bottom of the viewfinder when it's really bright outside? I could do with a brightness control!

I do sometimes, but I do make it work.

These suckers slip off easily. It's long been a Pentax problem feature. I have lost several of them. Stock up on cheap third party replacements.

which doesn't explain why I never have had one come off my K-30, with 3-1/2 years of regular use and 2-1/2 years of intermittent use.

Perhaps the K30 does a better job of holding onto its eyecup than my K200D or K-x. Perhaps I have been careless unlucky. One was lost off my K-x while it was in daily use. The killer seems to be a tightly packed bag that dislodges it.

True story. A K10D that I once took in for repairs was deemed beyond repair, so I picked it up after paying a substantial fee for the "diagnosis." When I got home, I noticed that the eyecup was missing.

Edit: A *istD I bought on auction arrived without one. One of my spares fit, but not very well. The design must have changed.
