Ricoh Theta Spherical Society in the Round Society

Now that Adam has enable support for the Ricoh Theta's spherical images, I thought that I'd start sharing:

Theta Image

There's not that many of us out there, but if you have one, share you images!

I'm waiting to see your 360 video clips from a good ride... you know Youtube supports 360 video now, right?

Yup. That's why I bought it. The video is pretty crappy though. Here's my "Running Review"

Unfortunately, you can't view the video properly in the forum, you have to watch on YouTube while using Chrome.

Wow, that hemispherical flare is quite something!

Good for a quick run down some twisties on a cloudy day, perhaps?

That flare is happening when a ray of light bursts through the leaves and momentarily overexposes half of the image. It's interesting that in the rectangular format you can see the "seam" of the image during that momentary overexposure.

I'm definitely going to have to think about how to use the Theta for the motorcycle stories. That's why I'm testing it out now while on my runs, for which it's quite fun. I did nearly 2 hours in the woods with the camera on the whole time and snapped hundreds of photos and minutes of video.

Quite honestly, I'm not sure if the IQ is up to print quality. Certainly not a full page or two page spread, but maybe a smaller image, and even then it will be hard.

Here's some more from my trail runs:

"Is that a tree? Growing out of a rock?"

"Yes, it is."

What is the range of using a smartphone as a remote control?

Is there a way to mount it to a tripod?

The connection is via WiFi so it will depend upon the antenna of the Theta and the phone. Just did a test with my Droid. Worked at around 40 feet. Failed beyond 75 feet.

Yes, there's a 1/4 20 on the bottom.

Totally gonna put one of those on a selfie-stick so I can hide my ugly mug behind a tree or post.

Growing up, I never liked the way that I looked. Now I just don't care.
