Hello all. I've added a Theta V to my other cameras, a Z and a K1, for professional use. I'm finding the Theta very "Apple" like, in that it seems quite opaque to me in terms of its operation and instructions on how to operate. I loathe Apple today (I started on Macs in the '80's), and anything else that is supposedly "intuitive" in operation but is anything but. The issues so far:

• extreme difficulties getting my S4 and the Theta to communicate with one another in any way (yes, everything that is supposed to be on is on)(yes, the firmware is upgraded---although I can think of much better ways to let someone know that the upgrade is complete!)
• inability to find any screen shots of the Theta software to even know if I'm on the right page/tab
• not seeing any control layout at all
• therefore uncertainty about whether anything is installed correctly
• and do the other plug-ins all need to be installed as well, separately, in order to get full functions?

Also: There are other apps to control the Theta besides the Ricoh one. Any experience out there with these?


Also: can it be true that one must join Twitter (NEVER!!!!!!) Facebook (very unlikely! Not now with their admission that 87,000,000 people's profiles, most in the U.S. have been compromised...) in order to take advantage of Theta360.com and participate?

Make sure you install the "Theta S" app rather than "Theta". That's most likely what's giving you issues.

In a nutshell, all you need to do is connect to the theta's network via your phone's wifi menu. Once that's done, things should "just work". If not, there's some additional guidance here:

Use the Ricoh app unless you need specialized functionality. It is quite good otherwise.

Yes you do. If you're worried about privacy, just make a twitter account, because they don't ask for any personal information.

However, theta360.com is not the only place where you can post spherical photos online. Also, we're working on a feature here on PF to support viewing spherical photos that are uploaded directly.

Adam, Thanks for your reply. I was in NYC yesterday and could only access the internet via my phone, and I'm not adept at that (last resort). Yes, I downloaded the Theta S app. Today I'm going to trouble shoot to see if it was other wireless interference, and I will look at the Theta S review. I can't wait until you guys do your review---the ones currently online are not so helpful.
