Since the start of the digital age Pentax has predominantly an APS-C brand. Most Pentaxians don't have a full frame kit. This is a camera for a) that established APS-C user base, b) people who want better action performance and c) people who like the DSLR features like an OVF.

They certainly won't sell as many as a Sony/Canon/Nikon equivalent, and I guess that is part of the reason for the relatively high price.
What relatively high price? As far as any of us know they have not announced the release price yet. There are only WAGs about the price. My WAG is the price will be somewhere around $1400 to $1600 but as I said that is a WAG too.

Yes, that one. For Pentax that is a relatively high price. Within six months of release I bought a brand new K-3ii for under $800. I'm not complaining, or declaring that I won't buy one, only that the likely price of the K-3iii will be in the neighborhood of double the new price of the K-3ii.

No, Pentax officialy stated it will be >200,000¥, which would be above $1,900:

We expect to set its market price around the upper-200,000-yen range.

You'll find the information at minute 9:44 (or second 584):

200,000¥ does not necessarily equal $1900. Currently on the Ricoh Japan site the DFA* 85mm is listed at 248,000¥. At B&H it goes for $1700. The GRIII is officially 123,750¥, at B&H it's currently $896.

Using about 140¥ to the dollar, that would make 200,000¥ equal to about $1429. For the K-3iii to be more than $1900 in the US it would need to be priced at over 266,000¥.

You're right, i checked it with the D FA 24-70mm. MSRP was 210,000¥ (1,650€) and initial market price 1,300€.

It will also be a different price in different countries. Quite often I see things where the dollar price is the same number as the pound price. Maybe its because the UK is a smaller market and they want to maximise profit! Whatever the reason, it sucks!

Me too, that comes out to about $2000 CAD, which is what I'm expecting.

With our Goods and Services Tax (GST), sellers are required to specify the GST-inclusive price - so prices often seem higher than US prices, which mostly don't seem to include tax. Perhaps the UK prices you are referring to are VAT-inclusive Peter?

$US1600 would translate to a retail price of around $A2200 here (about $2k + 10% GST). The more pessimistic predictions amongst the Aussie Pentaxians (https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/94-pentax-price-watch/418781-huge-rise-o...australia.html) think the K-3iii (body only) might launch here just under the current price of the K-1ii, which is around $A3200 at present ($A2700 on sale). To use Clackers' priceless phrase, that would put it in the realm of the price-insensitive Lexus driver.

US Prices would always be without sales tax. Sales tax (if any) will vary a lot state to state and even city to city. For example I used to live in Oregon and there is no sales tax at all. I now live in Washington and there is a state sales tax, county sales tax and city sales tax. The state amount is fixed at 6.5% but counties and cities are free to set the tax individually, and that can vary from .5% to 4% on top of the state portion. So when I do an art show I have to check the location of the show and compute what the tax rate is for that specific address. Then collect that amount and report and send it in to the revenue folks.

So a US price, depending on location, might then need another 10% or even more added for tax. Or zero if you live in Oregon

Following on from what I said, this website popped up. Based on this we are paying 20-30% more than the cheapest locations. The UK has 20% tax on everything but for this not to be a marketing decision, there would have to be no tax anywhere else in the world. Basically, everyone seems to feel milking the British public is fair game! ****grumble grumble grumble****

We do get a two year warranty though. Well we used to before Brexit, I have no idea what happens now.

ONLY IF you buy from a Pentax Pro dealer - otherwise (e.g, from Amazon) it's one year and with little or no opportunity to buy an extended warrantee.
