Evening mountain bike rides are back for me and not only are the trails dry enough but they are a little too dry and the air is hazy already. It was still a nice evening on the trails.

Snowy Owl

This snowy owl should have headed farther north by now, but I'm glad he/she didn't. (Guessing it's a youngish male, I'm going with that.) I was in line at a local fast food restaurant when I spotted him, with NO camera at hand! Got my order, drove home, grabbed my K3iii with D FA 150-450 already on it, drove back and captured some shots from two vantage points! Looked like he was resting after a meal. The restaurant wall is the background. At one point I had to wait more than a full minute before he turned his head to where I could see more than the back of his head. Delighted I got some shots, and even more that he wasn't the least disturbed posing for me. Cropped and resized for posting, otherwise SOOC.

4X enlargement of a picture of Quebec City, taken @ 105 mm FL and f/8, from 10 kilometers away on the western tip of Isle d'Orleans. You can see flags floating on buildings here and there ...

Another series I would have missed without the K3III, it happened fast.

EDIT: Fun fact. These were quite unintentionally shot at 25600. I tend to go early, just before daybreak, and apparently had set it higher the previous weekend.

I mentioned in Kobie's K3III focus thread that what I've been finding is even under a clear sky if the bird is some distance away the camera takes a shot or two before it locks focus, but then does a very good job holding it for the remainder of a burst. In this one the first two are blurry before it achieves focus with the third. The rest are good until number 11 where it lost focus for a frame before locking in again for the last two. This has been relatively consistent. If the bird is already in flight it takes a frame or two in a burst to get focus. Note: Medium burst speed works well with larger birds.

These are all 100% crops, so you can see there was some distance between me and the Osprey.

Something I just noticed too: Those were shot at 25600 ISO.

Unintentional, I had thought I had set the upper limit to 12800.

I am confused on the terminology when crops are discussed... what is '100% crop' (is that the image uncropped) and when I see 'full crop' is that the same.
