As I have shared in the past I shoot a lot of travel baseball. I regularly Shoot double header action with K3 iii + grip.

I capture around 100 frames an inning so at the end of 2 games I have between 1300 and 1500 pics to cull down to a subset worth sharing.

One day I used DFA 70-210 + HD DA1.4x the other I used DFA 150-450.

Which do you think was easier on battery life?

Tough call. I'm guessing the 150-450 but really have no idea.

Puffins - DA*300

The AF-C definitely seems to work with the high speed missile, AKA the puffin. The focus accuracy seems to improve through the burst with the K3iii. Previous models seemed to get worse. There was no way I could have got 2nd or 3rd shot with K1 or K5.

Good guess... I was surprised that the bigger/heavier of the two was the more energy efficient.

A couple of favorites from yesterdays action with DFA 150-450

Hi... Thanks for your comment.

1. "AE Highlight Weighted" helps meter a scene containing high dynamic range (lots of bright, unfiltered light blasting into deep dark shadows). When employed, it instantly assesses the scene for highlights and adjusts the metering of the scene so as to NOT allow over exposure in the bright areas. This particular scene was mostly dark shade flooded with spots of bright sunlight. The K-3 MkIII offers the feature, the scene seemed suitable, so I figured: Why not use it? Nikon offers the feature, too. To learn more, check it out:

How to Supercharge Your Photography with Highlight-Weighted Metering

2. As to "Custom Image Auto Select", it activates the camera's Real-Time Scene Analysis system. This is one of the camera's "secret sauce" modes that helps resolve all sorts of complex capture issues; color rendition and high iso, in particular.

3. I feel a good photograph contains a fair balance between content and composition. Content is King, so I'm always on alert for it. Often it helps hide weaknesses. My in-camera bird photography setting selection choices are an ongoing work in progress. I also LOVE the fun/challenge offered by post-processing. Sometimes my camera+post "setting soup" works, sometimes not. I'm glad you found it interesting in this particular photo.

Comments and questions are always welcome.

Cheers... M
Thank you Michaelina2. I will try out this setting, since I often encounter the conditions you describe.

Cheers,
Loyd
