Another fun comparison with it's crop:
Yep definitely excellent AF. Does it track well with the screw drive??

tbh, I haven't really put it through it's paces yet. I took my daughter to the park and only snapped a few shots.
but initially it's incredibly impressive.
Through the view finder, the focus point does a stellar job staying on target (my daughters eye for instance!)
The screw drive focus throw is really short and snappy on the 40, but it did a pretty darn good job tracking that bird - especially since I was pinwheeling on my back heel while it flew around me :P

Great examples Fozz. Nice seeing you put in the time to capture and post them for us. It's very helpful to those still on the fence.

Me, I'm still flying a little low today, so maybe tomorrow I can get out for a bit more action.

Feel better soon gator! Must be so tempting to get out there! But it's the right thing to do to stay indoors for yourself and others health and safety!
Take care and I look forward to seeing more of your posts!

well I have read the manual

[ some of it any way ]

went to the Topeka Zoo and Conservation Center

forgot to put in an SD card for the JPEG

so the first image of each is SOOC Raw, the second image is done with simple pp

the mountain lion was photographed through the glass of the enclosure

A few photos from walking around this weekend. Upgraded from a K-3 and definitely noticed AF hit rate improvements (also a definite improvement in the SR).

I was quite pleased with how well it tracked with screwdrive, and my combo was the Tamron 70–200 f/2.8 coupled to the HD DA 1.4x TC. Lots of things to figure out about AF hold and how big to make the blob of focus points I control with the joystick, but pretty impressed even with screwdrive.

Is that a Jackalope?!?? - that a huge rabbit!! I had to check your avatar to make sure you were not one of our Australian members posting kangaroo photos (the Canada Geese were a give away TBH)

First image OOC (reduced size for posting of course and JPEG). Second is at auto setting in Topaz Denoise. No particular care taken so results could be improved if it was an important shot.
Topaz denoise is awesome! Can't live without it.
