To me it seems that DFA 150-450 +K-3III is a killer combination for birding.

Too bad that I don’t have that lens...

I have been planning for years to visit a nearby nature reserve early in the morning for some bird photography. We go there for walks a dozen times every year, but I never managed to get out of bed early enough to go there to spend a few hours in one of the observation hides. Seeing what the K-3III can do combined with the 150-450, might motivate me enough... Amazing shots in this thread!

I only got my K3 iii yesterday afternoon so have barely used it ... Heres a few baby bunny shots from the yard this morning with a Sigma 120-400

and from yesterday about 1 hr after I got it...( I probably should have read the manual a bit)

I will say that so far from my very limited experience the K3 iii plays very well with the Pentax HD TC..

I predict that this thread will cause a lot of members to want the K3 III

and be eager to get one if and when the price drops

Well! Finally someone here is posting pictures taken with the K3III and the DA*300/4!
Very good images and thank you for posting them.
If you have more to come, I assume that you will have them posted on Flickr as well? I'll follow that.
Cheers!

Thanks jpzk - my post nos. 148, 171 and 245 above were taken with the DA*300mm, mostly with the 1.4xTC. Some of my recent flickr shots are taken with this combination and some with my GR III.
I am noticing the ease with which I can "lock on" to a bird using the medium active area compared with the K-3. My single attempt at birds in flight (Caspian Tern) produced a few in-focus shots, but I'm certainly not getting long runs of great images when I'm tracking. Next time I will go from the medium to the large selected active area and see whether "Hold AF" helps. Any suggestions from others would be appreciated.

A few shots from yesterday. I need to work on figuring out the metering for BIF. I was using highlight-weighted, but I'm not sure that this is the best option. Autofocus seemed to work great, but my keeper rate was lowered due to exposure issues. Thankfully, the subjects gave me a lot of opportunities for shots.

Thanks for the heads-up!
It will be interesting to know how you fare with different settings for BIF.
Also looking forward to others' suggestions.

Those racing shots are impressive! Were you shooting any of it in burst mode?

Hi guys,

Its me again, the crazy motorsport fan that takes pictures from Barcelona.
This past week I was offered by the importer of Pentax in Spain, Reflecta to test that brilliant camera for a week as I was going to travel to Montecarlo to cover the 2021 Formula E Monaco E-Prix, and so I did.

Firsts impressions of the camera once I had it and was at home was it was looking very promising. Menus are good once you get used to them, new functionalities as the new layout of buttons works fantastic once you get to know them, and the possibilities about AutoFocus looked very promising. Also liked the grip and how it suits my small hands.

So I went to Monaco and the event runs just one day, and here I would like to share with you some sets of images un-edited I took with this camera and the following lenses: Sigma 100-300mm F4 and Sigma 17-50mm f2.8.
Images where taken usually in a regular mode using the ViewFinder but also some where taken using the LightView and it also worked great.

Let me leave here some examples (following after I will let some sequence of 12 shots taken from the same car to show how does the camera perfom while taking a secuence of images of a racing car coming towards us). . .
