Wow! What amazing mountain scenery! I don't see the banding but I do see a dust spot.

I was always amazed at the colours but they never seemed to hang around for long, make the most of them!

Yes, it is always a race and the intersection of great colors with great light at a great location can be very fleeting! I always try to maximize it this time of year.

Taken at night, a bit messed up as I had nowhere to park and had to shot close to car with all lights running. 20-40mm Ltd at 30mm, cropped. Muted colour setting with magenta overlay.

And those two taken also with 20-40mm Ltd, at 20mm. I dont know which one I like more, I think the one with pier and people visible. Landscape colour setting, with hue set full to left (cyan I think?).

And lastly same airport terminal at night, pixel shift, muted profile, blue overlay.

15mm Ltd, f14, 2.5s, highlight-weighted metering

20-40mm Ltd at 20mm f13, 6s, spot metering

Thank you! I was lucky that the Kestrel was keen to eat, so it didn't fly away.

Amazing. Did the camera track focus successfully in that second shot, or did you pre-focus and open the shutter at the right moment as the quads came toward you?

I guess you did a bit of tracking – how is it?

The potential (but as yet unproven in any review) improvement in C-AF tracking would be my reason to buy this camera. I have the 55-300PLM. But until there's a proper review on this site or perhaps DPReview I won't. All the other review sites and magazines have reviewed focussing with lenses such as the 16-85 which is not a rigorous test (too short focal length, too small max aperture).

I'm sure there will be others such as me who are waiting a full review somewhere. Why hasn't Pentax sent out test units? The early DPReview was on a camera borrowed from a shop. Since then, nothing. Doesn't Pentax want to sell this camera?

Thanks

Paul

I'm not the OP you were commenting on, but here's an example - K-3iii DA* 300 1/1250 f5.6 ISO 500 - fifth in a sequence of six (exposure slightly lifted in LR). All acceptably in focus, this being the best from point of view of dog expression, though it appears the ball/mouth is sharpest in this shot. This was only my 55th exposure with the K-3iii after I got it, before I fine tuned the focus. Ricoh have really grasped z-axis tracking, plus shutter rate is phenomenal for an SLR. The 'eye-detection' does seem to work quite well with humans and golden-retriever, but the brown faced springer spaniel defeats it.

I find the K-3iii needs the lens to be fine focus calibrated to get the best results. My K-1 AF works well with all lens, without adjustment. The K-3iii AF tracking is good, as good as the Olympus M1X in some situations, but I think the focus motor on the DA* 300 (and the DFA 150-450) are limiting performance at times: especially if the focus runs to minimum/maximum range. The focus range limiter on the DFA 150-450 really helps in this regard. I don't have the 55-300 PLM, so can't comment on how well that works.

The K-3iii focussing is so much more refined than previous generations - I have K-1 and my wife has KP - this is in a different league. I still think the K-1 is a better all-round camera, but for anything that moves faster than a canal barge, the K-3iii is the preferred option.

Hope that helps!

I mainly used AF-C (Release-priority) AF Mode - Zone Select. Depending on the plot, he used some techniques, for example, while the athlete was not in the frame, autofocus followed the edge of the springboard with its lower points.

When an athlete appeared, autofocus clung to him and I began to photograph. If there were many obstacles in the plot besides the main object, I used the Expanded mode
Area AF (L)

I hope Google will correctly translate what I wanted to say. : O
