That is a striking hummingbird photo. They do eat small insects so it is likely probing the Russion olive fruit to see if there are any larvae or adult insects inside, or perhaps a small spider.
Thanks, you're the second person to let me know that it might have been searching for bugs. I had no idea hummingbirds eat bugs!
