This is an experiment sitting quite close to the feeders with the 100mm Macro WR. Not much reach, but f/2.8 max aperture. Screw drive a little noisy. Had to sit very still for the birds to show up. Hit rate was quite low, but when I nailed it I like the sharpness and bokeh compared to farther away with the 55-300 PLM.

Well, I couldn't wait any longer. Amazon had been selling the Mark III for $200 over the $2000 price, Adorama was waiting for more stock, the same as B&H. Then last Tuesday I think it was Amazon had 7 left for the regular price. I gave up the kit from B&H just to get the camera in my hands from Amazon and I couldn't be happier.

I love pics of rusty old trucks, very nice.

Been posting mainly in other threads, but the K-3III is playing quite nicely with my DA* 200 and 300. They feel faster, but most likely it's just that AF is more decisive than on my K-1. So far, just been snapping shots of birds right outside the apartment.

Testing highlight-weighted metering, DA*200, no crop, no exposure changes in post. Shadows could stand to be raised just a little IMHO. White-winged Dove.

DA*200, slight crop. House Finch pair scavenging at the hummer feeder.

Male House Sparrow in heavy foliage, heavy crop.

Male House Finch at the hummer feeder, slight crop.

Thank you, these guys line in a row along the water's edge and the original image has 7 or 8 birds in it. I didn't notice these guys when I originally took the picture but I saw them when I was checking out the photos on the computer, so this is a pretty big crop. Great way to rest that big ole beak when you're sleeping too.

The first two shots are not just nicely focused, but have humour - the first with the contrast of bird size, the second with "dowdy" vs colourful. There is something vaguely vertigo-ish about the last shot with the woodpecker stretched out horizontal looking straight up the tree trunk.

Three very effective images.
