Yes, Astrotracer does work on the K3iii - although the controls are very different. Does anyone know what the difference is between Astrotracer mode 1 and 2? From the description, type 2 is for landscape with stars, while type 1 is for stars only.

You have to press the green button to be able to use the front wheel to adjust the exposure time - otherwise you need to use a remote release. The rear wheel adjusts the aperture. The exposure compensation button triggers the fine calibration.
K3iii with HDDA 16-85 WR at 16mm, 1600 ISO, f4.0 and 120s.

OK, mode 2 has reduced motion of the sensor to reduce blur in terrestrial objects. Thanks!

Got out today with the K-3 and Da*300 for some challenging pics of Purple Martins ( Think big , fast swallows). I wanted to see how it did with AF, the results were pretty good., much better than I expected..

first up, stationary red winged Black Bird that felt left out.

Generally, I thought the K3 iii did very well...The DA *300 as well. The photographer could have done better both with his Capture and post processing but he thinks the cards were stacked against him with New camera and the shiny purple birds and contrasty/harsh mid day light. He promises to do better next time

The tower of this church at Earls Barton, Northamptonshire, UK, is mid-10th century. SMC Pentax 28mm f/3.5 shift. (Cross posted with the K lenses thread.)

Nice Martin catches there, Al. I think as we get more accustomed to how the Mk III operates we will definitely see even better captures.

Great photos! Was the snow not great because of Spring? We've just had the first light snowfalls in Australia.

5 exposure handheld HDR's with DA*11-18 (LR). The fast frame rate makes these a breeze.

Thanks! Generally yes, but it is more nuanced than that. Sometimes spring snow can be great, either powder or corn*. But today it was a little soft snow that was too old to be good powder but too young to be good corn. It's crusty and inconsistent and generally hard to ski. When the snow has been better here we've skied those steep lines between rock bands but it would not have been fun today.

*in spring or summer when the snow is consolidated into one big mass that freezes solid overnight and then the top layer is warmed by the morning sun to a nice soft and predictable consistency for skiing.

Thanks for the explanation! I've done downhill skiing all my life, but I haven't learned a lot of words to describe the quality of the snow.
