I'm shooting a high altitude backcountry running race (The San Juan Solstice 50) next weekend and have been hiking the area to figure out logistics. I was up there yesterday and got chased off the trail by an aggressive grouse which is a first for me. A closer look revealed it was a momma grouse with 7 or 8 very well camouflaged chicks. I had also never seen grouse chicks before and they are super cute and tiny! I managed to get a few photos without being attacked or getting mom too upset once she calmed down from my initial arrival. Pretty special to see!

Yeah, i did go out today to try my new HD TC 1.4 and I paired it with DFA*70-200

Combo is little soft wide open. 70-200 has that bit softness @ 2.8 which goes a way whne stopped down. it does not occure in all situations, but having this TC, it does magnify that to be apparent. So stopping down from f 4 to 4,5 or 5, does get rid of that 'problem'. It does not bother in all situations thou and does give nice look. Stopped more down does bring more detail and contrast, ofcourse. All in all I'm happy. This combo does improve close focus too and there is beautiful bokeh.

Enough of words, here is pictures:

Nifty shot! Until I read your text, I thought to myself "now that's a new bird slicer"!
