Congrats on your purchase. the K-3 III and the FA77, they go together well.
I’m like how the K-3 III does in mixed lighting. Have fun.

Nice shot! I think it's the 737 NG, which most of the ones in Australia are.

Not a happy swan. I wasn't too happy either - poor light, windy, rain mixed with snow.

The AFC really does seem to be improved with the new firmware. I used a much larger pattern of AF points here and it tracked the subject well.

Yes, it's better. But a landing airliner or biz-jet is not so demanding. My old *istD was able to do that without difficulty

Earlier models of Pentax DSLRs couldn't show me the active AF point being used in the viewfinder in AFC. In any case I wasn't comparing the AFC to past models, I was looking for improvements in subject recognition and tracking compared to Firmware 1.01 (I never installed 1.02). The thing I was able to try here was starting to track by putting the centre AF point on the flight deck then reframing while tracking the flight deck in the viewfinder AF points.

Same Osprey, different Lens

One of the two Osprey nestlings and mama. She turned her head away on the shots both nestlings appear. OOC crop with D-FA 150-450 on the K3 iii. Noticeably better IQ than the earlier posted DA 50-300 pics.

AF-C is lot better but I tend not to use [AUTO] when shooting landing planes (close to ground) or taxing ones. AF likes to shift focus from plane to runway markings that are moving relatively to camera - probably cause they are yellow and rather big. Not happening when I photographing when places are high (so on sky - then no issue whatsoever) or when I use EX-L and point what camera has to track - then it follows what was pointed without issues. Still it is lots better then anything I had in my hands, even Oly EM-1 Mk II or my current phone with all "AI" support crammed into photo aplication.

And to not make OT too big:

Great racing images! The DFA* 70-200/2.8 shines on the K-3iii! I think it shows the road ahead for a fast DFA* 300/2.8...

The images are great, but a $5,000–6,000 300mm lens when we don’t have a modern FF TC and don’t have anything longer than 450mm now that the 560mm has been discontinued? I’d say that’s even less likely than a $2,000 K-1 iii.

An old riding buddy is doing the Colorado Trail (486 Miles over 12 days) to celebrate his 50th birthday and I joined for a day where the trail is near where I live. Hard day but fun (a lot of "type 2" fun) and beautiful. He said this is the hardest day of them all on this tour which seems totally believable to me!
