New K-3III does make these old lenses work much better than any model before. That is for sure.
That’s my strong impression, also.

I have now had a few months practise using the K3iii with the DA 300mm and 1.4x combination, its is a marriage made in heaven. I can not help smiling about these two shots. Butterflies at 2 meters and seal at 50m with exact same setup I have the wonderful 100mm WR macro but sometimes I wonder why I would switch lenses. Previously I used either the k3 or a K1 with 300mm and 1.7x and would never have got the seal image as they just popped up and down so fast in the water.

Great image of the seal. You’re mastering that combo of lens + camera!

A telephoto lens at the angle the shot of the Big Boy was taken certainly takes away from it's real length. UP4014 is a big locomotive.

despite the perceived disadvantage of the lens used

the size of the engine is shown by the clear image of the man in the cab

QuoteQuote:
Twenty-five Big Boys were built exclusively for Union Pacific Railroad, the first of which was delivered in 1941. The locomotives were 132 feet long and weighed 1.2 million pounds. Because of their great length, the frames of the Big Boys were "hinged," or articulated, to allow them to negotiate curves. They had a 4-8-8-4 wheel arrangement, which meant they had four wheels on the leading set of "pilot" wheels which guided the engine, eight drivers, another set of eight drivers, and four wheels following which supported the rear of the locomotive. The massive engines normally operated between Ogden, Utah, and Cheyenne, Wyo

Not my subject of choice, but that is an impressive shot! The image of that monster really imposes itself on the viewer.

I think even without the guy in the cab, the shot still captures the feel of a very big engine, even if it does distort the perception of the length.

another of the " Big Boy " from the same vantage point but the train has obviously gotten closer

the staircase on the right leads down onto the AMTRAC loading platform at Kansas City, Mo. Union Station and you can see the two sets of tracks used by AMTRAC

Nice! It's awesome the UP put all the work and effort to get this locomotive back in operation. I only hope the bring it further east.

Loving this lens on my K1, and now really liking what I'm seeing in this thread and on your K3 III... I just had to find out and looked at your Exif... that is some very clean ISO1600 !

Did you have to do much about noise in post process to the pic? Did it start out as Raw or Jpg?

Just curious, as I'm still on the fence about jumping on this camera or wait on the next K1 III.
Tnx.
