Chauve-souris au vol / Bat in flight
Possibly: Grande Chauve-souris brune / Big Brown Bat [Eptesicus fuscus]
Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Québec, CANADA
2021.10.12
------------------
Sometimes this summer, a fellow bird photographer sent his FB contacts a challenge to catch bats in flight.
This evening, I saw one bat flying around the house, and I recalled the challenge.
By the way, we don't see them very often at this time of the year, they are about to migrate or hibernate for the entire winter.

I grabbed my camera and decided to take the challenge. Lens aperture almost wide-open, boosted the ISOs, tried to keep a minimal speed and... let's go!

This bat was flying on the other side of the street, so the photo was significantly cropped (~50%; original 6192x4128 reduced to 3096 x 2064 pixels).
Applied PP treatements in NR and sharpness. I'm quite happy of the end result despite the high ISO.

Aren't they classed as pests in WA?
They were before but they are now protected as native Fauna under the DBCA (Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions).

A very cheeky fox and seemingly unafraid of lurking around in the human world!! Totally fun images, well taken.

These Moose were at least 100 yards away, maybe 200, so a big crop. The sky was overcast. I was using the DA*300mm and the 1.4x TC, handheld. The shots looked a bit flat on the LCD and in RAW but came up to what I saw through my binoculars with a bit of added contrast. While the focusing isn't as fast as with a more modern lens I'm still impressed with the image quality and the low-light performance.

I didn't have much hope for this shot until I opened it up and started tweaking the brightness adjustment. Again, a significant crop.

For this one I removed the TC due to the poor light - a minor crop.

This is a red-shouldered hawk that I saw in my yard. She was patiently tracking a squirrel.
I had enough time to go back into the house and get my mk III.
However, the camera must have been all she could take because I only squeezed off one shot before she had enough of me.
It was set on TAv at 1/1000 and f6.3. Lens 55-300 @ 300
In these conditions it was taken at ISO 16,000.
Not a very good picture but I'm still impressed I could get something useful at ISO 16,000!

With 20-40 Ltd. The more I use this lens the more I like it. Pentax landscape color profile, no changes.

Getting clean, sharp shots is easy with this lens and body.

Thought I'd try some easy bird shots with the K3III last weekend. I went for a constantly moving, gray bird set against gray rocks that was foraging in moving water while in the shade. It worked out nicely.
