Originally posted by rogerstg To that end, I find myself overwhelmed with choices and their relationships. I could use some advice on best settings to capture BIF, especially heading toward me.
I assume it is best to use continuous focus, but which priority, focus or release? Then there are the choices of AF active area, AF area restriction, first frame action, AF Hold (off, low to high), AF tracking types, and subject recognition.
Any help is appreciated. TIA
I have yet to dive deeper into the possibilities the K-3 III offers, but I am very fond of setting the third wheel to AF settings. I don't think I have altered the standard of that setting yet: with the flick of the wheel, it changes between AF-S and single spot, to AF-C and small area, to AF-C and full area. The first is nice for stationary targets, the third is perfect for a moving bird against a featureless sky. I think I'm not really using the second option that often so I should delete it from the selection.
Otherwise I think I have "First shot in AF-C" set to focus priority (or release as well?) and the following shots to release priority. And I think I settled on the medium fps setting, because it's still fast enough to fire off enough shots, but fills up the buffer a little more slowly. #
If using single spot or small area, the joystick is a joy to use. Example for me: a squirrel walking over the lawn is close enough to fill most of the frame, and walking left to right? -> move the AF area to the right with the joystick. Looking right at me: push the joystick so it is centered, or move it to the top if it's standing up. Works fast enough for me even with little to no experience using it.
