Originally posted by Mccsiz Your waterfall shot caught my attention. I noticed that the lens is a 50mm (1.8). I own some old glass (1.7), but haven't tried it on the K3-III. Do you think I could achieve a similar effect? What is creating the copper colour in the water? I am assuming you used a tripod. Did you use a remote as well?

Hi Loyd! Glad you like it. I think you could definitely do this with an old 1.7. So the details for my shot:
- shot on a tripod
- this is a 20 second exposure, I used a +10 ND filter, you can see the exif data on flickr Untitled | Robert Y | Flickr
- the gold colour is from the sun rise hitting the trees across the water, this was a real lucky fluke
- here's a photo of a similar water structure Untitled | Robert Y | Flickr
- be careful near weirs, their serene appearance masks the incredible danger of falling in, there's a real risk of getting stuck in the turbulent water below! (I don't mean to sound like a bummer, always feel like it's worth posting this online)
- I think I used a 2 second timer to start this off, it avoids camera shake
If you don't have an ND filter, you could use averaging interval composite mode to get a similar effect. Set your camera to ISO 100, f/11 or so, and a huge number of shots, 100 or more.
I can go into more detail if you'd like, love to see what you come up with.
