I am shooting in TAv mode using Back Button Focus.

In the Still Image Settings Menus >

In AF with Viewfinder >

AF Mode > AF.C
AF Active Area > Spot
AF Area Restriction > Off
1st Frame Action in AF.C > Release-priority
Action in AF.C Cont. > Focus-priority
Hold AF Status > Medium
Action When AF Fails > Drive Lens
AF Point Tracking in AF.C > Type 1
Subject Recognition > On
Thanks, are you using the same setting when shooting birds in flight like your excellent swallow images?

A fun little aside: Out hiking this morning, before the sun came up as I typically do. So there's a couple of photographers I regularly see out, one shooting a Canon DSLR(?)and 100-300 today, and the other a Sony A7III and 200-600. We're standing around talking about an Osprey circling on the far sie of a lake and the conversation turned to higher ISO's and how the Sony guy got a decent series a few weeks earlier but he had to crank the ISO to 5000 and there was just too much noise, even using Topaz. Said he can't really shoot faster than 3200 and get decent results, and the Canon guy agreed.

I casually mentioned getting a nice heron fishing series captured at 25600, to which both expressed serious doubt and the Sony guy saying I better check that ISO again because it impossible without so much noise that it's unusable. Had to log into Pentax Forums while out in a marsh and point him to this thread for proof.

A Tawny Frogmouth family has been living around our place for about a decade, but always in trees. This is the first time I've seen one actually sitting on the house!

Maybe, after you visiting him at home in the trees so often, he decided to visit you at your home!

He does look so out of place there, though!

Good catch!
