The B-29 Doc Story
Doc is a B-29 Superfortress and one of 1,644 manufactured in Wichita during World War II. Since 1987 when Tony Mazzolini found Doc on sitting and rotting away in the Mojave Desert, plans have been in the works to restore the historic warbird to flying status to serve as a flying museum.

Over the past 15+ years, hundreds of volunteers have worked on Doc and the restoration project. Skilled workers and retirees from Wichita’s aviation industry, veterans, active duty military and others wanting to honor those who served, have spent tens of thousands of hours on Doc’s restoration. Countless individuals and organizations also made financial and in-kind contributions to keep the project going. Below is a brief timeline of Doc’s military service, the restoration effort and Doc’s current mission.. . .

Great shot of the old B29, Allen, the Mojave was probably the best place to store the old Warbird much less humidity to wreak havoc with the aluminum that the plane is constructed of. Davis Monthan Air Force Base near Tucson has a similar climate and is used by the U.S. Military for storing old aircraft.

thank you, it was the first air show I ever attended and attempted to photograph, and I am pleased with what I was able to achieve

hoping that they will be bringing the air show back but so far no news

a couple more:

AEROSHELL AEROBATIC TEAM

Rumbling over the skies of Topeka in their 600-horsepower, Pratt & Whitney radial engines, the Aeroshell Aerobatic Team combines nostalgia, romance, and entertainment in their colorful World War II-era North American AT--6GTexans. Flying in the tight diamond formation, the team performs a series of loops, barrel rolls, and dynamic maneuvers full of tremendous smoke and noise which has made them one of the most sought-after air show performances anywhere in the country.

U.S. AIR FORCE HERITAGE FLIGHT

The F-16 Viper Demonstration Team will team up with the Air Force Heritage Flight Foundation for a unique visual representation of the Air Force's history - from the days of the Army Air Corps to the present. What started out as a one-time event has now grown in popularity and demand, and Heritage Flights are now performed at special events and air shows across the world. Thunder Over the Heartland will be treated to various flypasts of the F-16 Fighting Falcon as it flies in formation with a World War II era P-51 Mustang representing nearly 75 years of Air Force heritage.

My wife bought a K-3 III so I am checking it out. She shoots weddings and she wanted something a little more zippy for any shots that require better auto focus. So far very pleased with it.
