That is logic. Split-prisms and microprisms obviously distort the image behind them and any patterns based on the image.
The overlay is known to Pentax and as such can easily be filtered away for the pattern recognition. Users changing the focusing screen hardware in ways not intended by the authors of the algorithms will have impact.
I suggest you try it out and prove me wrong.
