Originally posted by mtkeller I'm moving from a K-70, where there was lots of flickering and flashing, although with far fewer AF points. I have zero problem with the OVF not flashing red in AF.C, and that's after spending something like six hours shooting baseball in AF.C on Saturday. The tracking is good. Once you learn that it's good and figure out the right settings, you'll be able to trust it and not worry about lots of flashing focus points. Perhaps another reason for not flashing is that I imagine others use AF.C like I do: I push the back focus button so that tracking locks onto my subject, and then when something happens that I actually want to capture, I press and hold the shutter button. I would go absolutely blind if that viewfinder were flashing at me the whole time I am engaging the AF prior to shooting. (Maybe what I do is overkill, but I find it useful in a sport like baseball. I want to focus on the runner at first base, not the first baseman, and the camera might make the wrong decision if I just suddenly mash the AF button and then start firing. I'm new to competent AF, however, so welcome advice that disabuses me of bad habits.)
You do bring up a good point regarding the illumination being on constantly or flashing repeatedly while tracking for an extended period of time.
I shoot a lot of birds in flight and I find when you're out on the wilderness surrounded by trees as the background, you just can't see the AF points so you really have no clue what the camera focused on. Was it the bird, or the tree, or the branches of the tree next to the bird? It'll take some extra time to continue learning the camera and the new AF system. Perhaps instead of relying on the AI, I should just switch back to single so at least I know exactly where that AF point is lol.
