Button placement

I haven’t sat down and compared my K5iis with the K3iii button I know button location is very different from my K1MKii and K3iii. I’m wondering why. I prefer the K1MKii layout and can probably remap my K3iii to come close but I’m scratching my head on this one…

Probably due to having to add in the joystick and the lock button, which is definitely worth the learning curve of moved buttons.

Oh I’m sure there’s a method to their madness, just struggling a bit for now.

Pentax have always changed (tuned?) the position of the buttons between "major" model changes. I can only compare APS-C flagships though.

The only time things stayed mostly the same was from the K-7 to the K-5 I think. The most drastic change for me was from the K20D to the K-7.

The most important button change between the K-5 and the K-3(II) was the AF button, which I use all the time while looking through the VF. That was a major hassle in the beginning, but I got used to it fairly quickly.

However, most buttons that changed on the K-3 III compared to the K-3 II are buttons that I don't used while looking through the VF. The ones I need to find blindly stayed more or less in the same area.

Again, I don't know about the K-1, but I think K-3(II) users will adapt easily.
