K3-iii finally in Australia

The black and silver bodies are finally showing as "low stock" on the Australian distributor (CRK) website, as of late this afternoon. Both premium kits are "on order".

This is the first time any stock has been shown. Up till now we have had a moveable projected arrival date punctuated by periods of "no stock". It is interesting that some stock of the bodies is listed, suggesting they received slightly more than they were expecting (and pre-sold), or perhaps a couple of pre-orders were cancelled.

No sign of my pre-order being shipped out yet though. Has anyone else received a shipping notice?

Interesting, thanks for that. I'm still going to wait for another sale though, AU$2400 (body only) is the benchmark now .
Hope you and others get the camera soon, looking forward to local reviews.

I don't have any confirmation email when I pre order the K-3 iii thru Pentax Australia. Yesterday I login into my account in their website is still backorder, I think they will not update the shipping information straight away even though they start sending out the order. I hope we can receive our new toys tomorrow or early next week.

The status of my order has just changed from "Backorder" to "Ready to Update", whatever that means. I take it to be progress.

UPDATE: now showing "Order Complete", with a tracking number. However, the tracking number does not work yet. But I guess they're on their way!

Yep: ETA showing as 14/5/21, just in time for the predicted rainy weekend.

It has arrived! A handsome beast, but I can see it will take a while to set up.

By the way, can anybody explain to me why the OVF of a DSLR cannot be focused when there is no battery in the camera?

Diopter or lens?

Some lenses (eg. DA*300, 55-300 PLM) are focus by wire and thus need power.

No, DA 40 and 70 Limiteds. Irrespective of diopter setting, I could not get manual focus with the lens with the battery removed. If I insert the battery, even without turning it on, the focus is fine.

No big deal; I just hadn't noticed it before.

Good news that things seem to be moving in Australia. No news here in Belgium yet...

DA* 300 has mechanical link between focus ring and internal focussing - works fine without power (and can be used on a 1980's Super-A with good results). But you're correct about 55-300 PLM (and DA 18-50 RE, upcoming DA* 16-50).

If it is like the K-1, the viewfinder LCD overlay can be a bit murky without a battery.

Hope that is all it is.
