K3iii Sales in Japan

Japanese site Map Times has the K3iii as the best selling camera in April and another retailer has it listed as the second best seller in April. Good to see the DSLR isn't dead

Even more impressive considering that they can't even meet the preorders.

After all the effort they put into it, I guess Ricoh deserves good sales, if that's what's happening in Japan. Hope it lasts them a bit longer, beyond the initial run, will compel people to buy more lenses and accessories too, and that the camera will sell at least reasonably well elsewhere.

Remarkable taste. Though possibly more a reflection of brand loyalty/zeal and hence heavily biased. Likely just a weak connection to sales too. Fun numbers nonetheless.

This is good to see. I think part of the angle on these numbers is how long it's been since there was a pro/pro-sumer grade APS-C body released under the Pentax banner. There's probably a lot of folks that were waiting for this just like we see here on this forum.

Don't get me wrong, anything that the people responsible for developing and producing the K-3iii can use to demonstrate the viability of the Pentax brand to Ricoh management is good. But there isn't any competition from other new camera model launches at the moment, so a new model from a company with ~3% of the Japanese DSLR market gets to be #1 for a while. The fact that preorders are sold out is even better news, it means that actual sales have exceeded the forecast that was able to get the product launch approved, which means that the future of the Pentax brand is brighter than it was at the beginning of the year.

Before analysing this "trend", please would you complete these lacking infos :
1- web visibility (site "followers" or something close, to see the potential)
2- number of votes (absolute data, to measure participation)
3- time period (limits, to extrapolate - or not)

Sssh, there would be nervous breakdowns all round over on DVR if they get wind of this. Failing that, they'll just say the whole of Japan are backward and cannot see the potential of milc , fun numbers and a nice bit of feedback for the engineering team at Pentax.

Considering the shortages of electronics and the delays it's still possible the forecast was higher tgan available supply, but it's still excellent news of course!

Excellent news for Ricoh/Pentax.
The engineers did a fabulus job.
I really like every bit of my Pentax K-3 iii.
I am from Canada, so I hope to see sell numbers in north america, mainly Canada.

Good news even if Pentax is popular in the homeland.
