Slot 2 and SD card compatibility

You can ignore me if you want but please do check your SD card compatibility in slot 2 before going out on an important shoot.

I have this old-ish SD card - Kingston Ultimate 128GB that was in my K-5IIs. It works ok in slot 1. But when used in slot 2, it only records 10 to 15% of all the photos I took. I can see the buffer trying to write to it and then fails. The strangest thing is immediately after taking photos, I can see the total numbers of files decreasing. I.e. if I take 10 photos and view it at the rear monitor, I can see 10 becomes 9, then becomes 8, etc.

But when using the same Kingston card in slot 1 there is not even a single problem.

I then tried using the latest Kingston Canvas react plus 128GB UHS-2 SD card and some very old and SLOW Sandisk 32GB cards on slot 2 without problem.

I repeated these tests over 500 photos and the results are very consistent. Luckily I discovered this problem while calibrating my lenses and not shooting something important.

That’s very odd.

I installed the latest ver 1.1 firmware and the problem disappeared, for now. I shot about 20 frames and all are recorded properly.
