New firmware with AF improvement

Hey all, found a post on FB from Pentax Japan, the guy developed K-3 iii mentioned that this firmware is also improved AF, cant 100% understand what he is saying but it seems the algorithm can differentiate between the background and subject. The original post is below

This sounds EXTREMELY promising
I'll look forward to a comprehensive translation!

I guess this is in line with what was "promised". The algorithms for AF, and more specifically subject recognition, being AI driven, I assume these could be refined at each firmware upgrade as the learning AI gets more time to "learn" from new images that get put through the learning engine.

This is still early days with this new performance with K-3III AF and all. So we will see big improvements on top of what we have this is pointing to that direction

Totally agree, I cannot wait to see what else is in the pipeline for future firmware upgrades.

Don't hold your breath :-) There has been only one Pentax DSLR receiving features in a firmware update worth a version 2 update.

I think he meant firmware updates for the K-3 Mk III. Or at least that's the way I understood his post.

Or maybe not??

I understand that. Pentax have no tradition adding a lot of features to the cameras released. They usually add lenses and they fix some bugs.

And, apparently, they are very diligent in ensuring improved stability for general performance.

Exactly how would a lens correct electronic shutter which the Mk III received with the 1.20 update??

Pentax has been known to add features in firmware updates. The 1.3 and 1.4 updates for the K1 added features including selectable electronic shutter in live view, square format, and others.

Actually you can leave a comment on their FB, I would like to have the AF focus point update, now it is hard to see the AF point in dark or indoor. Hope the future firmware can update the focus point to red colour once the AF is locked.

I have found that there is a high placebo quotient with new firmware updates.

(Everyone thinks they improve auto focus, but maybe there is less change than they think).
