DPReview's Best Cameras around $2000 -- K-3 Mark III in the list

The K-3 Mark III is included in DPReview's Buying Guide of "Best Cameras around $2000 in 2021."

Although the K-3 III -- which they have not fully tested and reviewed yet -- is not selected as their top pick, they note that it is "shaping up to be one of the most well-rounded DSLRs we've ever seen." It's a positive blurb.

Best cameras around $2000 in 2021: Digital Photography Review

I can't resist pointing out at least one niggle. Of the things they "don't like," the K-3 III is "relatively bulky." The bulkier and heavier Nikon D500 is also listed in the Guide, but gets a pass on this point, being described as "impressively lightweight."

That's very funny.

Are sure that is not a hidden hint to the real quality of this camera...

I thought Pentax Cameras were always docked points for being so small. "What do I do with my pinky?"
And heavy. So heavy! What is it, a hammer?

I'm glad to see good press, though. Mine's working great. Though I am not such a fan of the touch screen. I've got to figure out how to turn off the automatic screen display - I've accidentally moved focus points a couple of times.

I also noticed the "bulky" remark, which is not true. I prefer the Pentax camera bodies.

I guess we'd have to be happy with the relatively positive tone.

Using double standards and setting up criteria matching their preferences isn't at all surprising. The "bulky" nonsense, and the RAW NR which isn't mentioned e.g. for the R6...
I don't even think it's intentional.

I suspect that they drew some conclusions from their 2016 review of the D500, which suggested that the size and weight of the camera is the price to pay for its capabilities and performance. Unfortunately, the condensed overview in this Guide loses some of the meaning. The Guide would have benefited from careful review and editing to provide consistency across the disparate descriptions.

Anyways, their description of the Pentax is positive, and perhaps a preview of an upcoming full review.

Now, if everyone will excuse me, I need to go to the gym for my weight training. I hope to take my K-3 III on a photo outing tomorrow.

With battery and cards: d500 860 grams. K3iii 820 grams.

Noted in above post but can't read it on mobile.

Didn't they same the same thing with the K-1 versus D800?......

What's the betting it still ends up as one of the worst cameras of the year when they do their drunk thing at Christmas?...

The K3III is narrower, thinner, shorter and weighs less ... yet it is "bulkier" than the D500 ???
I've handled an old D500 recently: it just feels BULKY and heavy!
But DPR is always right and you must oblige.

That is on account of its low megapickle count.

Hard to say. To be fair, the DPReview TV review of May 2021 seemed generally favourable and positive. They highlighted quite a few features but noted several negatives, although they didn't slam the camera.

The Pentax was the only one in the group that has a pentaprism, the rest have mirrors. They didn't mention that in the comparison.
