K3 iii and af360 flash compatibility

Hi,

I recently acquired a K3 iii and really enjoy taking photos with it.
I also own a pentax af360 flash that works fine on my old K5 ii, but flash photos are overexposed when using it with the K3 iii.
Did anybody had this problem? Any ideas about what can be causing it?

Thanks,
Gabi

I very recently, yesterday, discovered I had that issue when using the Pentax flash off camera K3iii with a radio trigger. I do not have a problem with the flash on camera or with a flash extension cable or using the radio triggers with a third party, Neewer 620, flash off camera. Nor with my K3II, I haven’t had the time to investigate it yet.

In my case, it seems the K3iii does not recognize the radio transmitter and jacks up the ISO to 512K

Hi Peter,
On the camera, I've tried regular flash, slow sync and X mode (this one with better results).
On the flash, I've tried master and controller

Thanks,
Gabi

Hi Gabi, thanks for replying. For future reference you are more likely to get a response from someone if you quote their reply.....otherwise I may not see your response.

On the camera which exposure mode ?...... Av or M ? I can see you had better results with X-sync. I usually use M mode when using flash, remember shhutter speed needs to be at sync speed or below (1/200 or slower)

On the flash itself, you should not be using Master or Controller mode UNLESS you are using a second flash unit off the camera. If you are using a single AF360 on the camera hot shoe, you need to set the flash to either Manual output or P-TTL.

I used to have more than one AF360FGZ that I used with my K-3 II. I used to use Manual Mode with reasonable settings for what I was doing, for example 180 shutter speed, 200 ISO, and F9 Aperture, possiby for an indoor shot. I would also have the flash in TTL usually. The flash would usually compensate for the settings being used properly, and if I needed to set the flash output lower or higher, I would resort to the flash EV (plus or minus setting of brightness discharged from the flash). Of course you can also adjust your settings to accommodate for a situation, on the camera or flash.

Gabi, according to Pentax that flash should be compatible . Check pages 119 and 120 of the manual regarding setting it up in case something is off in the settings.

Tell us about your radio transmitter and what is being used as a reciever so we can help with the troubleshooting the flash issue. Your ISO problem is probably a matter of camera settings.

BTW...confirm that shutter speed was at or below sync speed. X-mode is our friend for troubleshooting.

Unlike the 360, that Neewer has no TTL or HSS, it's pretty basic.

And does your radio trigger support HSS?

If not, as Steve said, check your shutter speed. It needs to be 1/180s or slower.

Peter,
Thank you for your reply.
I was using P exposure mode. I'll try it with your suggestions.
Thanks a lot!
Gabi

You are welcome to post some pictures on here if you are not getting consistent results. The AF360 is a fine flash unit.

With my 360FGZ and K-3iii I'm not getting overexposure... maybe a slight bit underexposure.

The first picture is default exposure and the second picture is +1 stop comp.
