Today I recived my K3III.
I played a little bit before the new update.
Everything is fine except one annoying thing :
After the update I noticed (may be it was also before), the the brightness of the monitor is not stored (I always set this to maximum)
I tried everything in the User mode... But when the camera is switched OFF... and after some seconds to ON, the monitor brightness is to standard (and for me too low/dark).
Sorry when this (and may be the answer to this) was given before.

Hi,

Great question.

Try Menu C5, Memory, Outdoor View Setting, select the box to ON.

(Operating Manual, English language version, page 111)

It's a pity : the camera came with the frensh manual... I need it in German or English... OK I will download it from the Pentax site.
Again: thanks for quick help

Plus all the other faults they don't want to disclose, Paul.

I'm in IT, that's SOP for how software updates work.

There are updates to problems we don't know exist for various scenarios that the engineers have become aware of since the product launched.
I worked in IT for over 30 years. We used to disclose all known bugs to try to get the customers to upgrade the program, plus some could be mission critical for certain users.

Most firms will never do that, Fifescapes. The changelog the engineers see is not the changelog the customers ever see.

There are bugs that can be so obvious customers could question the competence of the company, or even demand financial compensation.

*New features* is what drives customers to upgrade, not remediation they pick up the bill for.

We only ever had one bug list which we openly shared with our customers. Yes, some early bugs were blindingly obvious! But over time as the software grew & grew & often lost coherence, some very subtle ones came along including one I fixed - somehow - by restructuring the code.

In case it happens to anyone else, when I downloaded the update file to my iMac from the Ricoh site, it came in with the filename fwdc233b-2.bin, and was not recognized by my K3-III when I tried to initiate the update procedure. I then noticed that previous update filenames were fwdc233b.bin (without the "-2" at the end). So I renamed the file by deleting the "-2", and the update ran perfectly after that. That hasn't happened before in the countless updates I have done on Pentax bodies previously. Everything seems fine after the update, with no particular differences or improvements noted yet.
