I spent a couple of hours this morning with that combo based on your YouTube video endorsing it. You're right. It performs much better than I had expected it would. Thanks!

Pretty remarkable outcome at that iso. I don't have that combo, but use it with the 55-300 PLM on my KP. Haven't tried to shoot at 25,600 iso on purpose.

Clean image.

But by "no post NR" do you mean (a), you let lightroom/your-poison-of-choice do its default NR that you didn't adjust any further, or (b), you processed the raw file with such raw processing software that absolutely allows the user to disable all NR?

LR doesn't apply any luminance NR on import as far as I know, but does set color NR to 25. Move the slider to 0 and that's off too.

Not speaking for Kobie, but I use the LR defaults, therefore it would show results the same relative to your own camera/brand if using Lightroom and defaults. The K3III has given me the best low-ISO performance of any camera I've owned to date. My own acceptable upper range tops out at that 25,600 which is very workable in many cases considering modern software, tho I tend to set it at 12800 max for nature stuff. I do a LOT of early mornings.

EDIT: So out early this morning and discover I had set the max ISO at 25600, and apparently at least a couple of weeks ago. So there you are.

Pentax has outdone themselves tuning the performance they squeeze from the hardware.

I use DxO as my Raw editor. I turned off all NR and made a copy of the file and turned NR (Deep Prime) on for the copy to compare them. So what I've posted is only the accelerator NR straight from the camera.
I tweaked saturation, shadows and exposure slightly.

The K-3III is a fantastic camera. I haven't shot at higher speed than 5000ISO but at that speed it is better than my film camera with 50ISO Fuji Velvia with perfect technique and the best lenses.....
It has completely changed the way I'm shooting; I rarely use tripod anymore and use Tav mode and let ISO fluctuate.

Other than as a creative choice or in-studio portraits, all I use anymore is TAv and float the ISO.

This may push me over the edge to upgrade the K3 to the III version!

Adorama appears to have it at the usual price, but with the battery grip thrown in. Is the grip worth it (an academic question if it's free, I suppose)? But, I've never felt limited by battery life.

For me and my big hands it is. The camera body itself almost gets lost in my hand.
