No playback after a burst.

A couple of time recently, when Playback is selected on my K-3 III after shooting a burst (say from 3 to maybe 10 shots), the camera displays the small circle of rotating dots on the monitor, and it doesn't stop.
I can select Playback again to revert to normal operation and continue to use the camera as normal, but even after a few minutes selecting Playback again still shows the rotating dots on the monitor.
If I switch the camera off, and back on, it starts up normally, and Playback operates as expected..
The Battery used is relatively new and typically close to full charge.
This has happened with firmware v 1.50 and v 1.60
Anyone seen this behaviour?

Cheers,
Terry

Terry.

Are you selecting playback while shots are still being written from the buffer to the card ? ie is the little red dot still flashing ?

Try disabling distortion corrections and clarity enhancements. Does that improve the performance?

No red dot.

Don't have any of those set.
It is an intermittent thing. Most times I can shoot a burst and all's well, but just those two times it has gone into 'limbo'.
Nothing I can find in the manual to give a clue as to what the revolving circle of dots is meant to tell us.
Cheers,
Terry

That is a generic symbol for "hold on, i am busy processing data".

It should resolve itself. But as anyone who has ever owned a computer will know, things are rarely that simple.

Have you tried a new card ?

I'll try a new card, but am pretty sure it's nothing to do with writing to the card, that's well and truly over and switching off and back on all my shots are correctly saved.
Nevertheless it's worth a try.

Terry

Are you using 2 cards? Are both set to shoot raw? Are you filling the buffer when you burst? Which card speed are you using? If you're using one card, is it in slot one or two?

Using two cards, both set to raw, but only writing to No1 card. I'm using Sandisk Extreme Pro, 170 MB/s.
I'd be surprised if it's a card writing/buffer issue. No red light to indicate writing and I can leave the camera for a couple of minutes after shooting and try Playback and still get the revolving dots.
I haven't had the patience to try to wait it out.

Cheers,
Terry

Bursts can take time, several minutes before pictures are shown, especially if you fill all buffers, use larger raw, and postprocessing like digital filters, hdr etc.. ... it’s indeed annoying if you need a quick review of a shot. Even switching off keeps processing. Normally with red lamp of card writing activity now and then flashing.
To check if camera hangs , try also menu, info... button. Or shoot another picture?
