Praktica FX2

The last model before adding pentaprism to make the IV SLR version

The lens is a preset that automatically closes as one starts to squeeze the release button. This makes the first "pop". As one continues to squeeze, there is another "pop". This is the mirror moving up. One must continue to press in order to get the final "pop", which is the shutter moving. I got caught a few times failing to press far enough for the third "pop".

These are well made.

So it’s basically a -clack clack clack- on every frame...! The mechanical sound of these is almost moving..

That lens is a zeiss Vorwahlspringblende. Is it a tessar? They are lovely lenses. Not especially fast (f2.8) but the sharpness and render are lovely. You set the aperture by pushing the ring against a spring and turning it. If you want to open it to focus you turn the same ring without pushing against the spring. The aperture then locks open until the pin on the mount is pressed by the camera. They date back to the late 1950s and are gorgeous. I really love mine

That is a neat old camera! Cool to use different old cameras with their unique idiosyncrasies.

Beautiful Camera and lens! I almost had the chance to buy something close to the one you show but didn't have the $$. A bit later, my mom got this one for me (circa 1970-71). It was made by Hanimex with a Meyer Oreston f 1.8 lens, my first 35mm and my first SLR. It was my go-to camera until I finally got a Pentax. What was the time era of your camera arnold?

Sorry, no intention to hijack arnold's thread but thought all here might be interested in the progression of the Practica.
