SP1000 Light Meter switch

I have just purchased an SP1000 with a metering problem which I've discovered that the possible cause is the diaphragm closing bar touching the front plate thus not allowing the sync meter assembly to fully function properly. With the front plate removed the meter assembly locks in place as it should, as there is nothing for the diaphragm to foul. Is there a way of adjusting this?
