JPEG does support grayscale as a part of a standard. There's even support for a higher color depth now (since 2014), up to 12 bits if I am not mistaken. It does not make a huge difference since the majority of displays operate in 8-bit space, but if used would give some room for editing.

LOL! You are correct Red, Green and Blue. I included luminance bringing it to four.

I came away very impressed. The shadow recovery seems very intriguing to me especially. I'm honestly tempted to pick one of these up for mono landscapes and street photos. I think I'd enjoy it with something like a DA 15 and FA 31 to get a little bit of that "vintage" feel that I had when I dabbled in film photography a few years back. Mirrorless is more practical for me in day to day use, but I still enjoy using a DSLR from time to time after doing so for years. It would be kind of like having the spare car in the garage to take out for weekends for fun.

Great link, I was finally able to confirm the real life usage of highlight metering mode and the ability to keep details in the shadows. They were impressed and now I am even more excited to receive my new camera

Wordy, but overall a good *quick* comparison between the several B+W camera options out there right now. And, yes, good job Pentax. I think this monochrome version will sell very well, and for as long as Pentax cares to manufacture them.

I see the Monochrome K3 is available to buy on the Ricoh/Pentax website today (Monday July 31, 2023) https://us.ricoh-imaging.com/product/pentax-k-3-mark-iii-monochrome/

As of Tuesday August 1, B&H Photo shows it in stock too. Mine has just shipped. Wait may be over.

Odd the spare battery has to come via ground and expected next week. Don't get why they ship it with a camera via Air, but a spare battery has to be shipped by Ground.
