DOMKE F-5XB Bag for a K7. Any experiences?

Help me to waist waiting time. Last night I ordered a nice Domke F-5XB for my K7 plus my four lenses.

So are there any friends with these kind of equipment? Pics would be great!

Thanks,
Rainer

The Domke F-5XB is a really nice smallish shoulder bag.
I use mine for a relatively compact Pentax manual focus film SLR w/lens mounted, plus one or two additional lenses.

This bag might be a very tight fit for your kit...

I came into the field accessories subforum planning to look for threads on smaller, non-descript shoulder bags. It looks like the F-5XB might be the bag for me and it required no actual searching

i use the slightly larger F-5XC which has a bit more room.
i love the bag, but with domke would put more pockets into their bags as there aren't enough and sometimes i'm worried about loose items falling out.

If it's lots of pockets you want look at LowePro etc.
But for simplicity and quality a Domke can't be beat.

I think you are going to have a very tight fit for the camera and 4 lens, one attached to the camera.

Domke has a habit of "exaggerating" what can go in these bags. I have the F 7 AF as my main two camera bag, and a F 3x as my "OK I've had enough and have to bust out of here for a bit" bag. Only the F 7 comes close to holding what Domke says it will.

Wonderful bags, nicely made. Do yourself a favor and spend the 13 bucks and get the postal pad for the strap. You'll be glad you did.

I have the 5XB and a K-7. I carry it and 2 Ltd primes (DA 40 and DA 21) with it and it could fit at least one more (maybe two) ltds. I also carry a few memory cards cables, microfiber cloth in there (thin/flat items). I'm not familiar of the size of the F135 or FA77.

Unless all 4 of your lenses are DA ltds, I dont think they will all fit in there. I dont have a zoom yet, but I am suspecting a standard kit zoom and maybe one or two limiteds could fit. If there are two kit lenses maybe they might fit if one was attached to camera and the dividers were removed/re-arranged with one standing up. Same thing goes with your F lenses, might have to remove/rearrange divider to sqeeze in the FA77 and /or F135.

That said, the quality is top notch, and works great as a small go-to bag when you just want to take a few lenses and go out and about shooting with a light kit.

I think this is a mistake bag buyers often make. "Just big enough" is actually a little too small.
Some extra room is required to allow you to shift items inside the bag without removing them.
Otherwise you will be performing a juggling act every time you need that lens on the bottom of the bag, etc.

OK Chris thats a good point.

But on the other hand in the past I made a "mistake" in the other direction.

Bying bags that were to big.

Often people told me: "Choose a bag and than buy the same a number bigger. Camera gear will grow and than your bag fits in the next future".

I ended with bag monsters that were no fun to carry around. Many times I left the camera at home.

But one of the big points of a Pentax or Leica Kit is that we join small cameras with small lenses. So I look forward to feel fine with a small Domke 5 that will fit only the K7 with a few Limiteds.

Yes, I agree. Camera bags are just like fishing tackle boxes and handbags.
Too large and they will eventually be filled with lots of unneccessary stuff...

So thats the result of my bag shopping.

The packed bag:

As you see, it fits all in a perfect way. The trick is (as mentioned here in the forum often in the past) to glue to endcaps together. Very handy and safe to manage two lenses in one place.

The shoulder strap is a little short at all, but Im thinkig of using another one in the future.

I used nearly over a dozen cambags in the last eight years. Nothing is so comfortable to carry and use for my four prime kit as a Domke 5!

Best,
Rainer
