Tripods

Good Afternoon All,

I have a Manfrotto 075 tripod which is an excellent tripod but too heavy for bush walking.

I am seriously thinking of either a Gitzo GT3531 or a Manfrotto 755CX3, both carbon fibre.

Can the centre column be reversed on the 755 for low level macro work.
I nned something of these tripod's calibre as what I will put on it weighs 4.0kg without a lens or DBG-2 battery pack, ie., K20D, Manfrotto 029 head, 625 adapter plate, 030 quick release plate and 454 micro sliding plates.

I want something that should I need them, spare parts are readily available, a big plus for Manfrotto and possibly Gitzo, but I have yet to prove this, as they are owned by the same company.

Regards,
Gordon.

If the longest lens you have is 200mm, 3 section series 1 Gitzo might do with column down, like GT1830 or GT1531. Series 3 6x tripods have excellent vibration dampening but also quite a bit heavier, and you might need a better head taking full advantage of it. For low level macro work, you might check out the explorer series, though you can remove the centre column of regular Gitzo like Manfrotto.

Tripod

Good Morning wlachlan,

There is a Sigma 150-500 to come hence the weight and stability issue.

Regards,
Gordon.
