8 GIG card

Hello
Has anyone tried any of the new 8 GIG SD cards in their K10?

ok I'll pipe up haha no I have not (should have shut up!) - I just got a good deal ($70.00) on a Sandisk 4gb that I am using and it comes with a USB card reader (cause my Laptop's built in reader just sits there).

The 4GB works great and a recent wedding/reception shooting (and Iwas not the offical photographer) raw+ almost filled it up - then again I love to shoot.

I read something about how 4gb and up standard sd type cards have a rather limited support from devices. To be safe, I'd adhere to the 2GB cap for standard SD when using dslrs and if larger sizes are needed, go for the SDHC options.

I just use several 2 GB cards. That way all my eggs aren't in one basket if something happens (theft, loss, etc.).

For today's standards, 2GB is simply not enough. I've always stuck with 4GB as my minimum...

I can see both sides of this argument
The 8 gig card would mean you could shoot endlessly? almost, in a single day.... maybe.
But I also agree with mopar_Man,it would be a shame if you had a ton of great shots and the card died.
It would be nice to know if the SDHC 8gig card would work though.

what happens when/if your card dies?

Id think it'd be better to have a few smaller cards. Is it really that hard to swap em out?

Convenience - I shot last weekend Raw+ Wedding / Reception / walkabouts on a 4gb SDHC Sandisk and it lasted the whole day - I also have 3 other 2gb cards - what happens if it died as barry said I would have lost all my shots of course - then again what happens if I get hit by a bus crossing the street ?

The only compliant with the 4gb SDCH is my Laptop built in reader will not read it , however the card came with a USB reader so a small inconvenience. I tend to download my pics the same day or next day and for now I will live the risk of mechanical failure on cards , batteries , camera.

I have three 2GB cards and two 1GB cards. I have only once filled up a 2GB and needed to change cards before I had a chance to load the photos onto my computer. I dont use the RAW mode much at all so I really dont need the larger cards

I just returned from a three week vacation to Italy and Greece. I used my K10D in JPEG at full resolution and best quality settings. I filled 4 1/2 - 2GB cards with almost 3700 photos. The last card was a Kensington that failed to download correctly (the others were all Sandisk Extreme 3 which were flawless). Luckily I was able to rescue the last card's info using the Rescue Pro software that comes with the Sandisk cards (THANK YOU Sandisk!!!). I started to panic once I realised that the last ~200 photos were missing. I couldn't imagine losing a full 2GB card after a trip like that. No thank you, you couldn't give me an 8GB card any more!
Regards,
Brian

You just had a real life experience of a very good point, don't put all of your eggs in one basket. I would of been sick if I had gone on a vacation like that and then lost all my photos.

I'm glad you were able to recover your shots

But, has anyone even tried one of these cards yet?

Barry
