Good small travel bag?

I looked through some of the other bag threads, but my request seemed a bit different, so please pardon yet another "what bag should I buy" request..

When I travel, and even most of the time I'm in the field shooting, I travle pretty light. I usually take one body (K100d) and two to three lenses (50mm 1.7, kit 18-55, and a telephoto ...which will soon be a tamron 70-300mm).

When I'm out on a photowalk, I want something that I can keep that stuff in, but that isn't as big and bulky as most photo backpacks. I don't really need a day bag.

I have looked at a couple models, like the Tamrac Velocity 7 and some lowepro, but would like to hear if anyone has or can recommend something along those lines....small and compact, sling is nice, something I can walk around with, but not be too bulky.

Thanks!

I've got the Lowepro Slingshot AW 200 and am very happy with it. Choose which size (100, 200 or 300) suits you and go for it - you won't be disappointed.

If you choose a slingshot bag, go for the larger sizes, 200 or 300..

i have a slingshot AW100 and the tamron 70-300 is very big for the bag.

besides that i like my slingshot a lot... it's very versatile...

Check out the Adorama slinger. It fits your K100D with any of your lenses attached and the other lenses as well. If you configure it right it even hold a 360 flash as well.

For shoulder bag, I like the Domke F-803 with the optional Domke Shoulder Pad. It is very slim and does not look like a typical camera bag from the outside.

And the shoulder pad (not shown in the photos above) makes it comfortable to carry it even for the whole day.

I have the tamrac velocity 7. Great bag, only thing I don't like is the shoulder strap, not ebough padding. But I'm sure you could get something from a luggage store to fix that. On my last vacation, I had my K100D. 16mm, 50mm, 28-70mm, , 18-55mm and my 135mm. Plus I had 4 sets of batteris, 3 memory cards(plus one in camera). Since the shoulder strap was a pain in the arse, I would just leave the lenses I wasn't using much back at the hotel.

They also have a velocity 8 and 9 which are bigger than the 7. I didn't like the slingshot to much. I did like how it had the zipper up top to access the camera, but didint like the shape of the bag.

Right now I am leaning toward the Crumpler 4 million...

or the AMM SLR bag (which is a little girly and may not appeal to all )

I use the Lowepro Rezo 120 AW. It is small enough to perfectly fit the body with a lens attached, flash, SD cards, spare batteries and one or two filters. Now, you can attach an extra lens pouch on its side to carry the tele you want. This is a shoulder bag that can be converted to a waist bag with a belt. Donīt know what kind of photo you do but itīs perfect for a half day light trekking.

The Tamrac Sling you have considered was exactly what I was going to recommend. I did however take the Velocity 9 to Tanzania and it wasn't quite the right thing for me ... I wished it had some mesh outside pockets and it was still not quite big enough for me, with my K10D, 5+ lb 300mm lens, 3 add'l lenses and 2 TCs (11+ lbs total) ... forget about wearing it as a sling if you weigh it down like that (it's fine over one shoulder tho). But if all the gear is only a few pounds (sounds like yours is), no prob and quite comfortable.

I did read one review before buying mine of someone who's -big- and said it was too small and was very uncomfortable. I'm just under 6'2" 215lb and I have to conclude that person must have been a lot bigger ... so just incase you are too, consider that.

What about the owners manuals?

What about a pocket large enough for the owners manuals? I have yet to find a compact bag that can carry a K10D with zoom lens attached, AF-540 flash, two additional lenses (one large), a handful of filters, several handfulls of small items (cords, chargers, batteries, etc), and, equally important, the owners manuals.

The manuals are often the most difficult things to fit into a bag. Camera bag reviews typically focus on the main compartment, rarely mentioning outside pockets other than in passing. Almost none mention what to do with the many owners manuals associated with photo equipment.

I have a medium sized Tamrac backpack, cant quite remember the model number but its tops in mybooks ..Has room for the camera owners manual, camera plus Lens, three normal sized lens plus room for my wee 50mm f1.4lens , filters cleaning cloths, batteries, and other odds n ends..Two trips away now have carted it on my back and no complaints whatsoever except from my Wife who i politely asked to lug an old tripod around...
Son owns a Lowpro and i find it a tad on the big side for me, but he's young and can propably handle it okay....

the Tamrac Sling Velocity bag I mentioned have a large (if flat/not deep) 'oval-ish' zippered front pocket. I brought my manual to Tanzania in it (plus my Sony eReader) along with 4 extra batteries, several filters (EV & Pol for two sizes), HyperDrive SPACE, and every adapter/charger, power converter and outlet adapter I would need in my possesion incase my luggage got lost (I might not have clean underwear, but I could shoot a near unlimited # of pix! ) ... all in the front pocket of the Tamrac Velocity 9 of mine. (to revisit what I mentioned, I just wish they had included a mesh pocket on the outside of that zippered pocket)

I don't think a full backback is the right thing for me, Papou, but I'm definately looking hard, m8o, at the Lowepro & Tamrac sling-type bags.
