Adaptall-2 PKA and Shake Reduction info

Hi all,

Not sure if this is mentioned elsewhere, maybe someone can direct me. Does the PKA Adaptall-2 adapter allow the focal length of the Tamron zoom lens to be transmitted to the K100D Super camera??? I know it allows Aperture info for P, Av, and Tv operation. But somehow I cannot find the clear answer to my question above. I have two SP zooms on modified PK adapters to allow a pseudo-Av (at least for subjects that don't move out of focus) and was wondering if the PKA adapter would help automatically inform at-the-moment changes in focal length to the camera so that SR is then automatically set properly too. Thanks for any help.

No, the Adapter can not transmit focal length data to the camera. Focal length data is only transmitted by AF lenses.

Thanks for the info.

I just read tonight elsewhere that someone recommends setting SR/VR to the shortest setting one might be using with that zoom lens during that shooting session. Good for landscape photos but not something like a sporting event where the action could be closer, then all of a sudden, farther away. Action is not going to stop for me to change SR info from the Menu.

I suppose some SR is better than none but then that means more post-processing with a focus rendering plug-in or deconvolution software. Was hoping a PKA adapter would help with somehow reducing the time on the computer, not increasing it. Trying to have a life too.

And that's why I've sold 2/3 of my manual zooms. I just don't want to deal with the SR issues. Using SR with a long-throw zoom is only asking for frustration, trouble, etc. If using an old manual zoom for action, I leave SR off and make sure the subjects are well-lit, and/or use a monopod for stability. If I must use SR, I set the lens to one FL and stay there, boosting the ISO as needed. Remember, these zooms were used for many years BEFORE we had SR/IS and ISO 56K.

Thanks for the tips. I sometimes do like the different style when shooting manual (zoom or prime), more deliberate and purposeful. That is why I will keep my two zooms for now. Just not so sure I need to "invest" in a PKA adaptall-2. Depends on one's priorities I guess.

If you don't mind using the green button and don't need matrix metering there is no reason to "invest" in a PKA adapter.
